Benefits of Yoga

Yoga, like all exercise, has amazing physical benefits to the body; but where Yoga separates itself from other forms of exercise, is its unique ability to link the mind to the body and create inner awareness and stillness.

Yoga is not just asana (poses). It is a philosophy that has existed for thousands of years. It has a deep and intriguing history and the benefits of yoga are now being recognised significantly in the Western world of medicine.

Yoga connects us to our breath. The one and only access we have to calming our nervous system. It teaches us presence in the moment and awareness of the sights and sounds that exist around us. It connects us to our own bodies and asks us to intuitively move in a safe and controlled manner. Yoga is not about muscle gain and weight loss. It is about building strength, balance and control in our bodies and in our minds.

Yoga also affords us one thing that many other forms of exercise do not. The opportunity to slow the chatter of the mind and relax. At the end of every Yoga asana practice is a guided meditation, visualisation or yoga nidra. This is called savasana (sha~vas~a~na). Savasana is your gift at the end of every class to just be.

No where to go. Nothing else to do.
